About this piece
back to topA handsome antique garden statue of a resting greyhound, in the manner of Austin & Seeley.
Dating from the mid 20th century, its light weathering only adds to this sleeping dog’s appearance, making it a beautiful piece for a country garden or townhouse courtyard.
Originating from England, its characterful features and detail are beautifully cast in composition stone.
Austin & Seeley
Felix Austin and John Seeley, founders of Austin & Seeley, were the first recorded to use a cement-based material for the manufacture of artificial stone.
The pair became leaders in the industry of architectural and garden ornaments by the mid-19th century, supplying from the middle classes to Queen Victoria. Statues like this would have been quite the prize possession during the Victorian era, as it is today.
