About this piece

An antique Scottish carved oak fireplace, dating to circa 1880.

Featuring ornate carvings below a uniquely shaped frieze, heavily handcarved with Scottish motifs of figures and lions, this antique fire surround is a beautiful chimneypiece for an interior seeking architectural features of elegance and fine craftsmanship.

The lion carvings are an ode to the ‘Lion Rampant’, or the royal banner of Scotland. This is the Queen’s official banner in Scotland displayed in gold, with a red rampant lion and royal tressure.

This boldly carved fire surround has an impressive appearance, enhanced by its dark stained oak finish.
