About this piece
back to topAn antique Italian terracotta panoramic wall art plaque marked ‘Rossana 1880’, mounted onto an earlier rustic walnut frame and held in place with metal ties.
The terracotta plaque depicts a stylised scenescape of Rossana, a commune in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. It is a traditional Italian scene detailing a myriad of mediterranean townhouses with low sloping roofs and small windows, narrow cobbled steps beneath stone archways and figures working in the streets. Reminiscent of old Italian folk art, it is carved in a panoramic style which adds to its unique, artistic appeal.
Together, the terracotta plaque and wooden frame span over 1.28m wide (4ft), making an impressive decor piece for an interior wall. It will look particularly striking against the backdrop of a neutral contemporary space or on the walls of a mediterranean style villa.
