Antique Italian Carved Giltwood Acanthus Wall Hanging Panel

A large-scale mid-18^th century Italian giltwood wall hanging panel, deeply handcarved in relief with acanthus decoration. One of similar lots we are selling, this decorative carved panel is made from walnut, the front decorated with a vibrant gilt finish and a flowerhead roundel to the centre.

You can just imagine this ornately carved panel once used as an architectural embellishment of a grand painted ceiling in a lavish Italian building, or on the walls framing a great tapestry.

Today, it will make a stunning decorative piece for an interior wall, ready for hanging with a hook to the back.
