About this piece

A 19th century antique German heraldic stained glass window hanging.

Since the early years of the Holy Roman Empire, the black eagle has been a traditional symbol of German statehood. Here it is depicted as part of a striking stained glass window, the black eagle above a matching eagle and chequerboard armorial shield surmounted by a crown, knight’s helmet and scrolling foliage.

Complete with two hoops to the top, this stained glass is perfect for hanging in a window or in front of a light source where the colours will come to life.
