It features a deep shelf in a traditional breakfront style with simply moulded details to the frieze and detached columns to the jambs that bring a sense of grandeur to any space. A striking piece for a main room, this Rouge Griotte marble fireplace has stood the test of time with only light wear associated with age and use.
Rouge Griotte Marble
Sourced from Belgium, Rouge Griotte was a popular marble of the 18th century, particularly among the royals who favoured this rich inimitable red for the fireplaces of their royal apartments. In fact, it is recorded that Louis XIV ordered many fireplaces to be made out of this red marble for the Versailles Palace in France. It is characterised by its intense cherry red colour with white veining.
