About this piece

A charming antique garden sundial featuring an ornate 19th century buff terracotta pedestal – possibly a work by Blanchard or Blashfield – with an earlier associated bronze sundial plate marked with ‘Cha Lincoln London’, likely referring to Charles Lincoln, a well-regarded London manufacturer of optical and scientific apparatus from 1745 to 1807.

This beautiful sundial is highly decorative, the column pedestal, with its neutral buff terracotta colour, decorated with and abundance of birds, flowers and foliage. Characterfully weathered, the terracotta has a distinct timeworn appeal that can only be achieved by exposure to the elements over many years, perfectly complemented by the bronze sundial plate with it’s Verdigris finish, intricate engraving and archetypal gnomon.

An ornamental focal point steeped in history, perfect for gardens of any age, style or size!
