About this piece
back to topAn antique Art Deco walnut and coromandel fire surround. This English fire surround was hand crafted circa 1920 during the peak of the Art Deco period.
Lavishly veneered in walnut and exotic coromandel wood, rarely seen in such quantity due to its rarity.
The surround is stepped inwards, faced with exceptional grain across the frieze and jambs, bordered with the coromandel. The shelf is finished with a matching edge, with the corners cut back to reveal the precise moulding around the stepped top of the jambs.
A striking example of Art Deco design that can be decadent and understated.
