About this piece

A large and impressive scale late George III antique English fire surround with breakfront mantle and applied composition (gesso) decoration. This is a brilliant statement piece for a main room of an interior thanks to its tall stature and intricate details.

Dating from circa 1800, this antique fireplace has stood the test of time. It is crafted from pine and beautifully hand-decorated with composition details evocative of styling typical of the period. This includes four dancing maidens and a piper to the centre tablet and neoclassical figures to the end blocks between ribbons of foliage, above a pair of striking ionic Greek column style jambs.
