A unique opportunity to purchase a pair of 18th century Georgian sandstone sphinx statues or gate pier ornaments, originally from High Head Castle, Cumbria.

These antique winged sphinx statues date to the remodelling of the High Head Castle in 1744–48, thought to be by the renowned architect, James Gibbs (1682-1754). With their unusual forms, huge scale and unique provenance, they are a spectacular feature for any garden with their mythical forms, resembling winged creatures with human heads from stories of legend! If desired, the wings detach.

A replacement pair can be seen in position on the gate piers to the front elevation of the castle.
