About this piece
back to topA 19th century watercolour of the Temple of Castor and Pollux inside the Roman Forum in central Rome.
The Temple of Vespasian and Titus between the columns. In the centre of the frame, the Arch of Septimius Severus stands before the city skyline.
The areas around the temples can be seen with overgrown foliage and undeveloped pathways, without the modern barriers in place today.
Figures in the foreground can be seen in the Italian fashions of the 1800s adding eye-catching reds and blues to the scene.
