About this piece
back to topA 19th Century watercolour of Abraham expelling Hagar and Ishmael after Claude Lorrain.
This painting is after image 173 from the Liber Veritatis, a book of drawings recording completed paintings made by 17th century artist Claude Lorrain. The scene, although with some details omitted, tells the biblical story from Genesis, XXI, 9-19.
Fine details of the foliage and buildings are embellished with a purple ink. The work is on a piece of board, which can be seen along the edge of the frame. It is signed to the bottom right but remains unidentified.
The frame is of high quality and has been made with great care to detail.
