This finely painted Grand Tour rarity dates to Circa 1850. Embellished with floral and foliate designs, painted in rich blues and deep reds which are offset by delicate gilding which resembles a stitched fabric edging.
The highlight of the piece is a miniature replica of Giorgione’s masterpiece – ‘The Three Ages of Man’ completed to an exceptional standard. The three figures are said to show the different stages of life; however, the trio appear to be studying a piece of music. This may allude to the box being intended to hold sheet music or notes.
