19th Century Neoclassical Dog Leg Fire Surround

A 19th century Neoclassical dog leg fire surround.

Hand carved from English pine circa 1800, this ornate Georgian design incorporates foliage and floral carvings throughout. The aperture is dressed with a floral design, finished with a fine rope twist inner edge. The widest part of the dog leg form has a variation of the pattern that ties in with the carvings above.

The frieze has a scrolling foliage design, centred with a floral swag beneath a small run of dental moulding.

A narrow foliate pattern is banded around the face of the mantle to finish this wonderful example of early 19th century craftsmanship.
