About this piece
back to topA 19th Century Glazed Stoneware Cane Coloured Sink by Charles Buick and Sons.
This stunning example of 19th century glazed stoneware has a rich cane coloured finish throughout. Standing on a pair of fluted legs, reminiscent of Roman columns, the large scale sink would be a perfect feature in a utility or boot room.
Natural crazing surrounds the original brass waste, giving an aged character. The overflow has a unique hole pattern, adding another unique detail to this unique and charming piece. The sink would suit any property modern or traditional, especially a building of similar coloured stone.
Buick & Sons – Hilton Fireclay Works, Alloa, Clackmannanshire
Situated in the outskirts of Alloa, Scotland, The Charles Buick & Sons Fireclay works was founded in 1873. Buick, a brick maker by trade, moved to Alloa to begin manufacturing goods from clay and fire clay. The site grew to three acres in size, producing building materials, pipework, bricks, tiles and household goods like sinks, plant stands and enamelled dishes. The company had a large showroom to display a range of bathroom items. The company liquidated in 1959, but the instantly recognisable cane coloured stoneware items leave a lasting legacy.
