About this piece

A 19th century Arts & Crafts fire surround with swans and herons.

Dated to circa 1880, this unique fire surround blends Victorian Arts & Crafts style with Neoclassical elements. This highly detailed piece is presented in a high oak finish with various themes from nature.

The jambs are mirrored, with a heron stands in water amongst bulrushes. Atop each jamb, framed neoclassical dolphins face inwards towards the frieze with further carvings of swans.

The centrepiece, an ornate flower in high relief, makes a pleasing triangular focal point with the jambs. Above, acanthus and scrolled carvings run under the mantel with a further neoclassical theme.

Stylistically adaptable to all manner of property, this and another slightly smaller version we have available would make an intriguing centrepiece of any modern or traditional property.
