A striking 1920s glazed stoneware pelican sculpture attributed to Leeds Fireclay Co. (LEFCO). Though unstamped, the stoneware is finished with a mottled grey-brown glaze typical of LEFCO works.

Decorated with floral rosettes, the statuary pelican is crafted in the Art Deco style, the design comprising of angular forms and straight lines characteristic of the period.

Thought to be after a design by celebrated late 19th / early 20th century designer Archibald Knox (1864-1933), this garden sculpture is unlike any example with have seen before. An unusual subject with an impressive personality, this antique pelican will be a welcome character to any garden or courtyard.
