About this piece

A late 18th century simulated marble Italian architectural model of an arched monument or entrance originating from Italy, c.1780.

Made from wood and composition, this decorative model is polychrome painted to simulate the appearance of marble, vibrant highlights of gilt instilling it with an air of grandeur. The model depicts an open void with two handpainted Corinthian style columns framing either side to form an arch as if observing the architecture of Greece or ancient Rome.

It is large in scale, making an impressive object of décor in an interior seeking neoclassical influences. Additionally, it could be used a decorative niche to showcase a favourite Grand Tour statue, drawing the eye with its golden colours and impressive Italian elegance.
