About this piece
back to topThis 18th century Cotswold limestone hand worked salting trough is presented in outstanding condition due to being situated indoors.
Hand carved in Broadway, Gloucestershire in the 1700s, this stone trough and a matching rectangular version were used for the salting and preservation of meat.
This does not have a drain hole, possibly to contain the salt as the meat was processed for storing.
The Cotswold stone has maintained its soft yellow glow, protected from the elements for hundreds of years. This piece would work outdoors or in a garden room as a feature planter.
