This highly detailed tribute is traceable back to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Shaftesbury, England. Placed in the north chapel, this shield of arms of the Whitaker family bares the inscription ‘Good men need not marble wee dare trust to glass the memory of William Whitaker Esq. who died the 3rd of October 1646 ‘.
The glass is made up of many parts with a full spectrum of colours. Fruiting vines and wheatsheafs can be seen throughout.
William Whitaker (1580 – 1646) was a British lawyer and parliamentarian with strong ties to the Shaftesbury area.
