About this piece

A stunning pair of large Neoclassical vases or urns made in plaster and dating from the middle of the 20th century. These impressive vases have a distinctly Grecian look, ornately detailed in relief with Neoclassical style figures, uniform patterning and unusual swan neck handles. The classical figures decorate one side only while the back is plain. They look particularly striking on plinths or columns, especially either side of a doorway or as decorative objects of interest in a large room. Though inspiration for these plaster vases is unknown, some of the details resemble notable marble vases of history such as the Greek vase by sculptor Sosibios dating from 50 BCE.
