About this piece
back to topBlacksmith-made in the mid 20th century, this set of tall wrought iron driveway gates with accompanying posts are beautifully handcrafted with timeless scrolling details and unusual sweeping arches. These antique driveway gates originate from France and have a unique and distinctive design, certain to make a striking entrance to a property or driveway. At more than 70 years old, the gates and posts are all in good condition with only small losses and bends to the ironwork.
Wrought Iron Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
