About this piece
back to topA tall set of heavy duty wrought iron driveway gates in Georgian style dating from the early 1800s. At more than 180 years old, these stunning gates are in good condition, offering the strength and resilience associated with age-old wrought iron to this very day. Spear-shaped finials to the top and centre remain intact as well as scrolls to each gate’s outer corners. This striking design draws the eye with its contrast of streamline bars and huge arches, setting the stage for a spectacular entrance to a property. The tall, narrow bars offer both security and timeless style, showcasing the brilliance of the blacksmith who made them.
Wrought Iron Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
