About this piece
back to topThese late 19th century antique wrought iron pedestrian gates bring instant grandeur to a garden with their ornate craftsmanship, abundance of scrollwork and striking pointed finial top. They have stood the test of time for over 130 years and as such would look beautiful in a period cottage garden or at the entrance to a traditional walled courtyard. These antique gates are well crafted and are fitted with hinge eyes and a replacement latch.
Wrought Iron Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
