About this piece

A reclaimed heraldic stained glass window circa 1914, depicting the coat of arms of Arthur Samuel.

Arthur Michael Samuel (1872-1942), 1st Baron Mancroft, was a British politician and served as Lord Mayor of Norwich from 1912 to 1913.

This stained glass window depicts Samuel’s crest; the shield detailed with an interpretation of the triple towered Farnham Castle, a chequered chevron, a pair of chained port cullis and a red palm below a passant guardant lion. Above is a knights helmet and an interpretation of Norwich Castle with sword and sceptre crossed, symbolic of Samuel’s connection with the City of Norwich.

The motto reads: ‘Courage, Patience’, with the latter lost and historically replaced with clear glass.

It is an interesting piece of English history, perfect for adding heritage to Norwich-based property or as a British collector’s piece. We are also selling another panel with a matching theme under Stock No. 36204.
