About this piece

A reclaimed shallow arched stained glass panel by Goddard and Gibbs in an abstract design.

This is a modernist stained glass panel with an unusual design, blending together a range of vibrant colours, shapes and patterns creating a stylised geometric display defined by the straight lines of dark lead.

The perfect characterful window to be flooded with daylight so the vibrant colours are brought to life in a contemporary home.

Goddard and Gibbs

Established in 1868 Goddard and Gibbs were a renowned stained glass studio producing traditional and contemporary pieces for various churches all over the world.

The company was initially established as Walter Gibbs & Sons on Blackfriars Road in London before the studio was taken over by James Clark & Sons, and in 1938 acquired Goddard’s Glass Works.

The was later taken over by James Clark & Eaton and in 1978 the studio was bought by Charles Clark.

This piece was possibly by chief designer John Lawson (1932-2009), who had joined the firm in 1970 from Faithcraft. However, the panel is not signed so this may require further research to make a firm attribution.

Goddard & Gibbs continued to keep continuity in the quality and design despite the various changes.

The panel is a stunning piece thanks to its striking geometric design.

We have a series of Goddard & Gibbs panels much like this available on our website.
