About this piece
back to topA pair of striking antique stone gargoyles, possibly stylised lions, wolves, or dogs, on rectangular bases, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. These Gothic gargoyles were once built into a wall, making a dramatic addition to a facade or exterior with their menacing presence. A around 100 years old, they are well preserved with details of the teeth, pointed ears and imposing eyes easily recognisable, while surface weathering from years exposed the elements gives each gargoyle a characterful, aged look. Once made by a talented stone mason, these antique gargoyles are carved into York stone. Various markings to the base make them great interior display pieces, steeped in historical interest. Alternatively, they could be placed in a garden or incorporated into an exterior wall as they were once intended.
