About this piece
back to topOriginating from France, this pair of 19th century wrought iron panels are a decorative addition to a garden with their elegant scrolling details and sturdy wrought iron craftsmanship. They make a stunning pair as fixed panels within a garden scheme, used as panels either side of a gate to create an eye-catching entrance or as a feature of a walled garden. Alternatively, they can be used as reclaimed garden trellis from which to grow plants and trail greenery for an age-old garden look, the surface rust finish echoing decades throughout history.
Wrought Iron Panels
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
