About this piece
back to topA pair of antique 19th century bronze fire dogs. Their impressive large scale and bronze fronts are accompanied by a wealth of interesting imagery; perfect for the main or reception room of a period country home or townhouse.
Dating to circa 1860 each one displays a bucolic scene of a farmer milking a horned cow underneath a tree. A bird perches in the crown of the tree, while a fruit garland flourishes, and fabric swag adorns the upper portion.
The legs display grotesque masks and fantasy birds. This pair are certainly unique.
This pair are a copy of the originals, which were made in 1561.
