About this piece

A set of 5 late 18th / early 19th century bronze servant bells mounted on their original old pine board. Once situated in the servant’s quarters of a large English house, these Georgian servant bells are still in working order after more than 220 years.

Also known as house bells, these bells were connected via an elaborate series of wire and pulleys, allowing residents of a house to summon a servant without even leaving the room. By the simple tug of a tassel or pull of a knob, a resident could call for assistance from the house staff.

These antique English servant bells will make a character feature of a modern property or fit seamlessly with the style of a period house – perfect for instilling a home with the history of stately houses of 18th and 19th century England, or the fictional Downton Abbey!
