About this piece

This rare fossil specimen of a large prehistoric tarpon-like cladocyclus gardineri fish is an impressive find, spanning more than 1.1m! Believed to be from Brazil, this prehistoric fossil fish specimen is over 110 million years old. It has preserved exceptionally with details of its scales, fins and head still recognisable through fossilisation over millions of years. It’s up turned mouth and long shape suggests that it was a large surface predator.

Today, it is a spectacular decorative object for a modern interior, displayed in a matrix and placed on a handmade bronze bracket with a slate base. It would look particularly impressive in a large display cabinet, filled with other prehistoric finds and curiosities, or as the focal point of a wide sideboard.
