About this piece
back to topA stylised dog gargoyle statue expressively carved into York stone. Dating from the late 19th / early 20th centuries, this dog head is over 120 years old and as such has a naturally weathered surface that only time can create, while the deeply carved details of the dog’s face are exceptionally preserved. With imposing eyes, pointed ears and fanged teeth, this dog head statue has a menacing presence, perhaps once used alongside this matching dog gargoyle statue as finials to the entrance of a large estate. Today, it makes a handsome object for a large, traditionally styled garden, either secured to a wall or placed on the ground as a dramatic path-side ornament. Makers markings to the reverse.
