About this piece
back to topThis exceptionally large 17th Century carved oak fireplace was reclaimed from a period property in Ludlow. With parts dating back to the 1700s, this grand feature fire surround was later adapted in the 19th century into its final form.
Presented in a dark oak finish, the jambs are deeply carved into square footed columns. A design that is replicated in an ascending scale, creating three tiers. The overmantel frieze is divided into six sections across two layers, standing over 8ft tall.
The ornate centrepiece resembles the entrance to a grand palace, flanked with symmetrical diamond shields. Above, three pairs of dragons face each other to symbolise protection and bring good fortune.
