About this piece
back to topA spectacular, naturally formed arrangement of three pyrite suns on a matrix sourced from Illinois, North America. Also known as sand dollars, these minerals have a flat, disk-like shape and bright metallic lustre formed by immense pressure over millions of years. While some individual pyrite suns are later mounted onto a matrix, these sand dollars are naturally occurring, still attached to the shale host rock where they were originally formed!
This spectacular specimen comes mounted on a metal stand as pictured, perfect for display.
The Illinois Coal Fields
