A freestanding antique cast iron fire grate or fire basket dating from the late 19th century. Influenced by traditional Regency and Neoclassical styles, this fire grate features a cast iron body with an engraved steel serpentine fretwork apron to the front. Ornamental finials instil a sense of grandeur while a classically styled urn and swag details make a decorative feature of the fire grate back. This Georgian style fire grate is a large size, perfect for burning both coal or wood. This item is over 140 years old and as such there are historic cracks to the back panel, however these do not affect the use or stability of the grate.
