About this piece
back to topAn early 20th century antique English stained glass window detailed with the Devonport Coat of Arms. This stained glass window is one of a series of panels we are selling from towns and cities on the south coast of the British Isles.
The Devonport Coat of Arms – depicting a naval crown and two oak branches above the hull of a ship – has been used by Devonport since 6th November 1876. Previously known as Plymouth Dock, its name changed to Devonport on 1st January 1824. It has a rich naval history and today hosts the largest naval base in Western Europe.
This maritime heritage is reflected in this windows design, one pane hand-painted with an old English sailing ship.
