About our range

Thornhill Methodist Church, Sunderland (later renamed the Burn Park Methodist Church) was built in 1902-1903 by TR Millburn and JE Miller, who later went on to build Sunderland’s Empire Theatre which opened in 1907.

In recent years, the church was sold, deconsecrated and the stained glass windows carefully removed.

This collection presents a selection of windows removed from the former Thornhill Methodist Church made by Atkinson Brothers of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and manufactured by Hartley Wood & Co Glass Works.

Highlights of the collection include a stunning pair of 2.1m tall stained glass windows depicting religious figures taken from the North Transept window and a vibrant stained glass window of Jesus from the vestibule/porch window.
