About this piece
back to topAn unusual collection of twenty-six antique English hanging shields depicting heraldic crests and coats of arms.
Dating from the late 19th century (1880-1900), these small shields are reminiscent of toleware, made from thin steel and tin and handpainted with armorial crests in vibrant colours. Examples include the coat of arms of the City of Oxford, the University of London, the University of Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh.
Each affixed with a ring hoop to the top for hanging, these small wall shields can be arranged in any formation you see fit as statement wall decor!
