About this piece

This elegant wrought iron side gate is perfect for a classic country garden or a beautiful pedestrian gate for the side of a house. It has been recently finished with black paint and features a working latch and hinge eyes, meaning that it is ready to be incorporated into a garden with minimal maintenance. Blacksmith-made at the cusp of the 19th century, this Georgian style gate is more than 200 years old and in excellent condition, only small losses to the finials signs of wear and tear throughout the years.

Wrought Iron Gate

Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
