An antique 19th century giant clam shell. Also known by its Latin name Tridacna gigas, this clam is of a large scale and has a smooth clean finish. It could be used externally, perhaps as a water feature, or internally as a basin in a home. Alternatively, it would look stunning on display due to its impressive appearance.

This item embodies different styles; Victorian, Edwardian and country.

Tridacna gigas

Tridacna gigas is a very decorative giant clam shell with a well-defined shape and good colour. Giant clams inhabit the oceans of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and have a lifespan of over 100 years. The layers, built up over the course of many years make the shells very heavy and difficult to date precisely.
