About this piece
back to topMade by a talented blacksmith in the early 1800s, this stunning set of strong wrought iron driveway gates make a beautiful entrance to a property. Sourced from a traditional country house in Cambridgeshire, they are tall and detailed with classic formations of wrought iron and unusual scrolling finials, currently highlighted with flaking gold paint. With a small amount of maintenance and new paint, these striking gates can be brought back to life to set the stage for a traditional driveway or property entrance.
These gates are a practical size for a driveway, fitting an opening of approximately 291 cm.
Wrought Iron Driveway Gates
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
